Humanitarian Action
“For some years we lived in Agudo and Rio Grande do Sul is in my heart, because it was the place where I stopped being a kid and matured. After the death of my stepfather and after concluding the Entrepreneurship and Rural Management course, my mother and I moved back to Florianópolis, where our family members live. In May this year, we followed from afar the sad news of the floods that destroyed several cities in Rio Grande do Sul. That is why we joined an NGO in Santa Catarina to collect donations and sent them to the people in need. It took weeks of much work to select and organize the clothes, footwear, food for people and feed for animals. The NGO provided for helicopters and trucks to transport the donations given by the people of the island of Florianópolis to Agudo, Cachoeira do Sul, Porto Alegre and other cities.
Before this action, I already had some experience in this type of work, because my group of the Entrepreneurship and Rural Management course, which I attended as an apprentice of the Growing Up Right Institute, had already planned and carried out a community campaign. We collected cleaning supplies and food items for a child care center in Agudo. This was one of the activities carried out by my group that I really loved, as we saw the result of our initiative. Having been an apprentice was an incredible experience where my personal development happened and I acquired knowledge that is still bringing benefits to me.
The course provided valuable achievements to take to life, like how to develop comprehensive communication, listen to other people’s opinion, I began to value my life and became independent. I loved living in the rural area and, if possible, I want to return to Rio Grande do Sul. I feel that I grew and matured when we moved to the countryside, I began to go out and I came to grips with myself in rural life. Life in the countryside is different and I am very grateful to the Growing-Up for what I learned there, especially grateful for everything educator André did for me and the group”.
