Us for Them Program – The female voice from the countryside

About the Program

Addressing gender issues in rural areas and promoting greater awareness of the role of women are central objectives of the Us for Them Program – The feminine voice of the countryside, a partnership between the Growing Up Right Institute and the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (UNISC). The program trains graduates of the Learning Program, with a special focus on the area of ​​communication, preparing them to become multipliers of reflection and knowledge for rural young people and the community in general, through radio programs.

2023

Nine graduates of the Rural Professional Learning Program at Growing Up Right Institute, aged between 16 and 18, participated in the seventh edition of the Us for Them Program – The feminine voice of the countryside. In a hybrid format, the 2023 edition brought together girls from seven municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul: Passo do Sobrado, Herveiras, Canguçu, São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Pardo, Cerro Branco and Progresso. 2022

The sixth edition of Us for Them  was held in a hybrid format and brought together seven graduates of the Rural Professional Learning Program from three different regions of Rio Grande do Sul: Passo do Sobrado, Herveiras and Canguçu.

 

Between August and October, they defined themes that supported interviews and research in the communities in which they live, culminating in scripts prepared with the support of communication professionals from the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (UNISC), a partner in the initiative.

2021

In the fifth edition, Us for Them  was once again in person, with part of the activities taking place within the structure of the Communication course at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc) and part in the communities of the participating graduates.

The result of the studies and research was the preparation and recording of bulletins on three themes: women in decision-making spaces, psychological violence against women and women, and aging. The participants are from the Rio Grande do Sul municipalities of Sinimbu, Vale do Sol, Passo do Sobrado and Vera Cruz.

2020

Six graduates of Growing Up Right Institute, aged between 18 and 21, accepted the challenge of participating, voluntarily, in the special edition of Us for Them Program – The feminine voice of the field.

Held in partnership with the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc), the program addresses topics related to sisterhood, female self-care and learning from the pandemic.

2019

The third class of the Us for Them Program was made up of eight girls aged 16 to 19, graduates of the Rural Professional Learning Program. The young scholarship recipients, from Boqueirão do Leão, Vale do Sol, Vera Cruz and Santa Cruz do Sul, began their activities in August 2019 at the Communication course facilities at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc).

There were, in total, 256 hours of activities, which resulted in radio bulletins on topics such as female entrepreneurship, autonomy, education and leadership.

2018

In the second class of the Us for Them Program, five girls from Vale do Sol, Vera Cruz and Venâncio Aires, aged 17 to 19, graduates of the Rural Professional Learning Program, participated in the activities between September and November 2018.

Taking place at the facilities of the Communication course at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc), under the coordination of the pedagogical team at Growing Up Right Institute, they research themes relating to the female condition and rural youth and, with the support of the university’s professors and staff , produced and recorded radio bulletins, which are broadcast on social media and in programs of partner entities of Growing Up Right Institute.

2017

Between September and November 2017, the first class of the project had the participation of 13 young scholarship holders from Vera Cruz (RS) and Candelária (RS), graduates of the Rural Professional Learning Program, aged between 16 and 19 years old, and included the partnership between the Rural Workers Union of Vera Cruz (RS) and the Communication courses at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul (Unisc).

Six scripts were produced for radio programs, each in 3 and 10 minute versions. The programs, which had as their theme the role of women in society, violence against women and child labor, were broadcast on radio stations in the region, with the support of project partners, on the Internet and also via radio news agencies.
