About the Institute

Growing Up Right Institute is an initiative of the Interstate Tobacco Industry Union (SindiTabaco) and its associated companies that took shape with the support and membership of people and entities involved in education and the fight against child labor, especially in areas with plantations. of tobacco, in the Southern Region of the country.

Founded on April 23, 2015, its goal is to offer subsidies for young people to remain and develop in rural areas, through income generation opportunities and the development of skills and potential, respecting gender differentiation, with possibilities for boys and girls.

The learning and professionalization alternatives for young people, which aim to combat teenage work, also strengthen the sustainable management capacity of small rural properties, essential for thousands of families in the states of the Southern Region of the country.

The essence of Growing Up Right Institute is to believe in the possibility that deep-rooted cultural issues can be changed.

Therefore, by identifying the cultural beliefs that legitimize child labor in rural areas, the Growing Up Right Institute seeks to promote reflective initiatives that question reality. After all, it is necessary to rethink the present with a view to ensuring a better future for children and adolescents in the countryside.

Mission

Combat the work of children and adolescents in rural areas of Brazil, especially in the tobacco production chain, through actions in the cultural, educational and socio-assistance fields, in compliance with legislation and in coordination with the various institutions that work with them purposes.

Vision

Constitute a reference for offering alternatives to children and adolescents, which encourage the construction and life projects from rural areas, but far from child labor practices.

Goals

The Institute’s purpose is to promote, encourage, develop and support social actions and projects aimed at combating the work of children and adolescents in rural areas, especially in the tobacco production chain, in the Southern Region of Brazil, through actions in the cultural field , educational, social and legal, in coordination with the various institutions that work with the same purposes. The objectives of Growing Up Right Institute  are:

  • Offer alternative learning, professionalization and training opportunities, aimed at adolescents from rural areas, as a way of combating adolescent work and strengthening the capacity for sustainable management of small rural properties in the States of the Southern Region of the country;

  • Recognize the cultural beliefs that legitimize child labor in rural areas and promote training and reflective initiatives, which allow us to question reality and rethink the present with a view to ensuring a better future for children and adolescents in rural areas;

  • Provide opportunities for income generation, credit, training and social support, alternatives to youth work practices, which allow the development of skills and potential of young people in rural areas;

  • Stimulate initiatives that allow reflection and differentiation of the gender condition of adolescents in rural areas, taking into account the possibilities and opportunities for professionalization of boys and girls, children of families linked to small rural properties in the Southern Region of Brazil.
